Betsy Moore to Speak at Jones Senior High School About the Opioid Crisis

On Tuesday, September 23rd at 1:15 PM, Wilson’s Wave Founder Betsy Moore will bring her powerful and deeply personal message to the students of Jones Senior High School (1378 NC-58, Trenton, NC 28585). Speaking to approximately 200 students in grades 9 through 12, Betsy will share a presentation designed to educate, inspire, and empower young people to make safe choices and become advocates for change.

About the Presentation

Betsy Moore’s speaking engagements are the beating heart of Wilson’s Wave’s mission. Drawing from her own tragic personal experience, Betsy delivers heartfelt, informative talks that leave a lasting impression. Her approach blends factual, up-to-date information with compassion and real-life perspective, making her words resonate with audiences of all ages, especially youth.

Her presentation will focus on three core areas:

Understanding the Present State

  • Betsy will offer a clear, comprehensive look at the opioid epidemic, with a particular focus on the dangers of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids. She’ll help students understand why these substances are so dangerous, how they’re affecting communities across the country, and why awareness is critical for saving lives.

Preventing Tragedy

  • Students will learn practical, real-world steps for avoiding overdose and recognizing the warning signs of opioid use. Betsy will discuss the hidden risks of fentanyl contamination in other drugs and provide strategies for making safer choices and looking out for friends.

Empathy and Support

  • Beyond prevention, Betsy will speak on the importance of building compassionate communities that support individuals struggling with addiction. She’ll share ways students can be part of the solution, whether through kindness, advocacy, or connecting people with resources.

A Mission Inspired by Wilson

Betsy’s story is not just a cautionary tale; it’s a call to action. Through Wilson’s Wave, she has dedicated her life to honoring the past while shaping a safer future. Her message encourages students to be aware, be proactive, and most importantly, be compassionate toward those impacted by substance use.

By bringing this conversation into schools, Wilson’s Wave is empowering the next generation to stand up against the opioid epidemic, armed with knowledge, empathy, and the courage to make a difference.
