Wilson’s Wave Founder Betsy Moore Joined Attorney General Jeff Jackson for Roundtable on Fentanyl Crisis

On Tuesday, July 8, Wilson’s Wave Founder Betsy Moore participated in a powerful and emotional roundtable discussion hosted by North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson. The meeting, held at the Department of Justice in Raleigh, brought together families from across the state who have lost loved ones to the fentanyl epidemic.

Betsy Moore, who founded Wilson’s Wave in honor of her son, joined a panel of courageous advocates to share her story and speak on behalf of countless families affected by fentanyl poisoning. The roundtable was designed to foster conversation, build understanding, and help guide future action to combat the crisis currently devastating communities in North Carolina and beyond.

Other presenters included:

  • Barbara Walsh, Fentanyl Victims Network of North Carolina – lost her daughter Sophia Walsh

  • Debbie Dalton, The HD Life Foundation – lost her son Hunter Dalton

  • Michelle Murdock – lost her daughter Keniesia Gee

  • Duane and Leslie Locklear – lost two sons, Matthew and Ryan Locklear

Each participant bravely shared their personal story, offering insight into the devastating toll the fentanyl crisis has taken on their families and communities. Their perspectives underscored the urgency of coordinated action, not only to prevent further loss, but to offer support to those still navigating grief and trauma.

Attorney General Jeff Jackson, along with several members of his leadership team—including Chief Deputy Attorney General Laura Howard, Criminal Bureau Chief Boz Zellinger, Chief of Staff Eric Wilson, and Communications Director Nazneen Ahmed—listened intently as families voiced their experiences, concerns, and hopes for stronger preventive measures and community outreach.

This roundtable was part of an ongoing effort by the North Carolina Department of Justice to better understand the impact of the opioid and fentanyl crisis from those who have lived through its most devastating consequences. The Attorney General’s office has named the opioid epidemic as one of its top priorities, and community conversations like this one are helping shape a more empathetic and informed path forward. More information on the state's efforts can be found on the NCDOJ Opioid Epidemic page.

Wilson’s Wave is proud to have had a voice at the table, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in this meaningful discussion. We continue to stand alongside all families impacted by this epidemic and will keep working toward a future where no more lives are lost to fentanyl.
